Zend Platform Performance Tuning on IBM i
Zend Platform on IBM I provides many benefits including monitoring and advanced debugging. One of the many key features of Zend Platform is caching. In a nutshell, Zend Platform caches PHP scripts and content in a byte-code format to improve performance. This is an extremely useful feature, especially when you start exploring frameworks like Zend Framework or Cake. Zend Platform has many dials and controls which affect caching on the IBM i. We are going to explore how a few of them work and shed some light on their purpose.

Reading Now: Design Patterns
Currently reading Design Patterns by Erich Gamma (Author), Richard Helm (Author), Ralph Johnson (Author), John M. Vlissides (Author) (aka the Gang of Four).
Its amazing coming back and reading this book again after so many years. I remember the first time I read this in 2002 having alot of this gloss over my head and now many of these design patterns are second nature – I couldn’t think of designing any type of OO software without these patterns.

Zend announces public beta of a new product: Zend Server
Zend has opened a public beta of its new all-in-one web development stack, Zend Server, for Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux. Anyone can download it, try it out, and give feedback. Two versions of this exist, Zend Server CE (which will always be free), and the full Zend Server, which after the beta will be commercial.
We welcome as much feedback as possible to make this the best package it can be.
