MySQL Webinar: 5 proactive measures to help minimize MySQL downtime, July 17

MySQL Webinar: 5 proactive measures to help minimize MySQL downtime, July 17th. Failure is an unavoidable part of IT life, but it does not always have to imply MySQL service downtime. In the years I have been working at Percona, I have been involved in many customer emergency cases, and I have seen a good number of problems that could have been avoided or alleviated if relatively simple proactive measures were taken.

On July 17th 2013, at 10 a.m. PDT, I will be delivering a webinar focused on presenting the Top 5 such measures, with the objective of helping you assess your current situation, and implement any needed changes to avoid production downtime in the future. The webinar is titled: “5 Proactive Measures to Minimize MySQL Downtime.”

Later that day, I will be delivering the same presentation, but live, and in Spanish, at the Montevideo MySQL Meetup group.  My colleague Martin Arrieta will be presenting and doing a hands-on demo of Percona XtraDB Cluster after my talk there.

MySQL Performance Blog readers in or near Montevideo that day are welcome to join us!

You can sign up for the webinar here, and find more information about the meetup here.

Join us for our first Percona MySQL University event in Raleigh, N.C. Jan 29

At Percona we focus on education a lot, which we believe is critical for us to be successful with our mission of making businesses successful with their use of MySQL. The MySQL Performance Blog, our first effort in this space, by now contains over 1,000 technical articles. We have spoken on countless conferences and Meetups and have published our knowledge in our “High Performance MySQL” book. We answer your questions on our forums, and host free technical Webinars. And for more intense MySQL educational experiences we offer MySQL Training and facilitate knowledge exchange at our Percona Live Conferences.

As if it were not enough, we’re adding another way for our community to learn more about MySQL and Percona products and to meet some of the Percona Team: Introducing “Percona MySQL University.”

Percona MySQL University is a single-day, one-track technical event which we plan to run in various locations across the U.S. and around the world with speakers from the Percona Team and the local MySQL community. These events will be free or very low cost so it should be easy for you to attend them.

We believe the Percona MySQL University events can fill the gap between MySQL meetups and Percona Live Conferences. The full-day format will allow for deeper immersion and more learning and networking opportunities, while the smaller single-track format will allow us to keep these events accessible and run them in the city closest to you.

As the title says we’re running our first Percona MySQL University event in Raleigh, N.C. on January 29th. We welcome you to attend and spread the world. Remember to register early as we have limited space available!

Speaking at MySQL Meetups in Atlanta,GA and Charlotte,NC

Start of the year and time for the first speaking tour. This time I will take my MySQL Indexing Best Practices presentation to Charlotte on January 14 and Atlanta on January 15.

I think this presentation is great for Meetup as it is both providing a lot of very good ready to use practical advice on picking MySQL indexes to people only starting to use MySQL, as well as going into the more advanced topics of MySQL index trickery so even advanced MySQL users will find something new to learn. Meetup format should also allow us more time to go into more details and more practical questions when useful. Bring your own indexing war stories if you’re joining us !

Another great thing about indexing topic is this is something both MySQL Developers and MySQL DBAs and Ops people need to know about so nobody will be bored.
