Percona University @Montevideo, FISL & São Paulo MySQL Meetup

Peter Zaitsev at last year's Percona University event in Montevideo

Peter Zaitsev at last year’s Percona University event in Montevideo

Later this week I’m excited to depart on a trip to South America. First I will stop in Montevideo, Uruguay, to meet with Percona’s team out there as well as to participate in our next Percona University event on April 29.

For those who do not know, Percona University events are free to attend and packed with technical presentations about MySQL and surrounding technologies, delivered by members of the Percona team and community speakers. Even though attendance is free, because space is limited you will need to register now to ensure that we have space for everyone.

Next stop will be Brazil, where I’ll be speaking at the local São Paulo MySQL Meetup group on May 6 and then on to Porto Alegre where I’ll speak at FISL (the International Free Software Forum) (May 9 14:00) about the “Practical Optimization of MySQL.”

If you’re also attending FISL and would like to connect at the show drop me a note at ceo AT percona.com.

Percona University at Washington, D.C. – Sept. 12

Percona University at Washington, D.C. - Sept. 12Following our events earlier this year in Raleigh, Montevideo, Buenos Aires, Toronto and Portland, we bring Percona University to Washington, D.C. on September 12.

This free one-day technical education event will cover many MySQL ecosystem technologies, including: Percona Server, MariaDB, MySQL 5.6, Percona XtraDB Cluster, Tungsten Replicator, Percona XtraBackup, MySQL Cluster and Percona Toolkit. We also will learn about Apache Hadoop and how it can be most successfully used with MySQL environments.

Matt Yonkovit, VP of Percona MySQL Consulting, will give his great talk on the “5 minute DBA,” drawing from a wealth of practical DBA tips for developers and system administrators – professionals who must step up to the plate on occasion and perform DBA tasks.

Ryan Huddleston, director of Percona Remote DBA, will talk about “MySQL Backups in the Real World,” sharing best practices you’ll want to follow if you never want to lose your data again – as well as being able to recover from various data incidents as quickly as possible.

Our special guest for this event is Baron Schwartz, co-Founder and CEO of VividCortex, who will be speaking about Using MySQL with Go. Go Programming language is quickly gaining popularity and we’re excited to bring the most up to date information about using Go with MySQL database.

If you will be in the Washington, D.C. area on September 12, I’d love to see you at this event – space is limited though, so please register now.  And if you’re interested in Percona University events and would like to bring one to your city, please fill out this form to let us know – especially if you can help us by hosting or promoting the event.

Percona MySQL University, Toronto is taking place this Friday and I’m very excited about this event because it is a special opportunity to fit a phenomenal number of specific and focused MySQL technical talks all into one day, for free.

Over the course of the day we will cover some of the hottest topics in the MySQL space. There will be talks covering topics like MySQL 5.6, MySQL in the Cloud and High Availability for MySQL, as well as Percona XtraDB Cluster for MySQL. We have talks planned for nearly every MySQL developer and DBA, from anyone  just starting with MySQL all the way to those of you who are seasoned MySQL Experts.

In addition to the conference presentations, we are providing you the opportunity to spend 45 (complementary) minutes one-on-one with a Percona MySQL Consulting expert.  Do not delay in reserving your time with a Percona Expert, as the number of available slots are very limited. Reserve your slot from Percona MySQL University event registration page.

Finally we’re going to have a raffle at the end of the day. The prizes include a ticket next month’s Percona Live MySQL Conference and Expo 2013 – the largest event of the year in MySQL ecosystem, a full week of Percona Training, a Percona MySQL Support subscription, and more valuable prices.

Percona MySQL University will be held at the FreshBooks offices at 35 Golden Avenue, Suite 105, Toronto, Ontario M6R 2J5. Directions along with the day’s complete agenda and registration details are on our Eventbright page.

We hope you’ll join us and invite your friends and colleagues !

Percona MySQL University: Looking for a venue in Toronto next month

Percona CEO Peter Zaitsev leads a track at the inaugural Percona MySQL University event in Raleigh, N.C. on Jan. 29, 2013.

Percona CEO Peter Zaitsev leads a track at the inaugural Percona MySQL University event in Raleigh, N.C. on Jan. 29, 2013.

Thank you to everyone who attended Percona MySQL University in Raleigh, N.C. We had a great turnout and a lot of positive feedback!

What’s next for Percona MySQL University? Next week we’re going to hold events in Montevideo and Buenos Aires which are gathering significant local interest!

In March we’re focusing on Toronto – We’ll be having a team meeting and running an event at the same time to ensure that we have some great speakers available.

As such we’re looking for venue in Toronto to hold this Free MySQL Educational event. If you can host or can recommend a venue, give us a heads up.

Our requirement is essentially a single room with a projector hookup which can hold 100-150 people for a full day at a convenient local location.
Local universities or companies which may have a large enough meeting space have been a great fit for us in the past.

Please comment below if you are able to host or have some ideas on venues!

Join us for our first Percona MySQL University event in Raleigh, N.C. Jan 29

At Percona we focus on education a lot, which we believe is critical for us to be successful with our mission of making businesses successful with their use of MySQL. The MySQL Performance Blog, our first effort in this space, by now contains over 1,000 technical articles. We have spoken on countless conferences and Meetups and have published our knowledge in our “High Performance MySQL” book. We answer your questions on our forums, and host free technical Webinars. And for more intense MySQL educational experiences we offer MySQL Training and facilitate knowledge exchange at our Percona Live Conferences.

As if it were not enough, we’re adding another way for our community to learn more about MySQL and Percona products and to meet some of the Percona Team: Introducing “Percona MySQL University.”

Percona MySQL University is a single-day, one-track technical event which we plan to run in various locations across the U.S. and around the world with speakers from the Percona Team and the local MySQL community. These events will be free or very low cost so it should be easy for you to attend them.

We believe the Percona MySQL University events can fill the gap between MySQL meetups and Percona Live Conferences. The full-day format will allow for deeper immersion and more learning and networking opportunities, while the smaller single-track format will allow us to keep these events accessible and run them in the city closest to you.

As the title says we’re running our first Percona MySQL University event in Raleigh, N.C. on January 29th. We welcome you to attend and spread the world. Remember to register early as we have limited space available!
